Liverpool The Champions

EPL 2019-2020 Season – Can Liverpool Break The Jinx?

Three decades of wait is a way too long time for any team to win a tournament having been the dominating club under the old title name. before.

It is equally agonizing when that team comes so close to winning the precious league only to be denied by a single point margin to the eventual winner.

So which team I’m talking about?

It is Liverpool that I’m talking about. One of the famous English Premier League club that narrowly missed winning the title last year by just a single point. Under the coach of Jurgen Klopp, they have performed really well in the previous season as well as in the current season.

Though Liverpool had won the UEFA Champions League in 2019, they still felt incomplete because of not able to win the EPL title the same year.

Their previous best chance of winning EPL was in 2013-2014 season, under Brendan Rogers, the then Manager of Liverpool. At crucial stages, due to few bloopers from Steven Gerrard, losing crucial games and frequent player rotation forced them to be the 2nd best.

But this time it looks like there is a possibility of seeing Liverpool lift the EPL title and break the 30 year jinx. 2020 looks promising for Liverpool as they are in a healthy lead over Leicester City and Manchester City.

So why Liverpool has a chance to win the title this year?

I feel Liverpool has the advantage to win the tournament for the following reasons:

#1. Loads Of Luck:

In this EPL season, Liverpool has loads of luck where we have seen them win a match even if they were not at their very best on that given match. The best example that I can think of is the previous game that they played against the Wolves.

In the first half of that match, there were a couple of instances that I felt Liverpool was lucky to win. The first instance was when Virgil Van Dyke passed the ball to Lallana. Before kicking the ball to Lallana, replays seemed to suggest that the ball appeared to have hit Virgil’s arm before he kicked it. But several football pundits had their doubts.

In the end, Liverpool scored the goal where the referee had to check with the VAR to confirm whether or not there was a handball from Lallana and was Mane, the goal scorer, on offside. The VAR confirmed that it was a goal.

The second instance also happened in the same half where the Wolves were denied the goal after the VAR confirmed that one of its players that received the ball was on off-side because of the replay showing that his arm was ahead of the Liverpool defender.

So, this gives a clear indication that luck is with Liverpool.

#2. Manchester City is in its poor form:

This EPL season has seen some of the worst performance coming in from the last year’s EPL Champion, Manchester City. They have lost many matches in the recent past to Manchester United, Wolves and have drawn few matches as well.

As a result, Liverpool has managed to have a strong lead of 14 points over Man City.

The main reason for poor performance on the part of Man City can be attributed to their weak defense. Without Vincent Kompany, they have looked weak and have conceded lots of goals. Kompany had resigned from the club at the end of last season after emerging victorious.

During this transfer window, Man City will have to find a suitable defender that can help their defense structure even stronger.

As a result, Liverpool appears to be heading towards claiming the EPL title this year.

#3. Liverpool is strong in its mid-field:

Liverpool has some of the best midfielders with the likes of James Milner, Oxlade Chamberlin and Henderson to name a few. Apart from great passing and helping the forwards with scoring goals, they have also contributed goals in few matches.

So at the moment, things are looking favorable for Liverpool and should this continue to be the trend till the last match played for this season, then there is going to be an extensive party at Anfield.

Having seen them come so close to winning the title last season, I feel Liverpool deserves to win the EPL title this year.

This is my conclusion.
