The familiar anthem of Liverpool Club, ‘You Will Never Walk Alone’, has indeed been realized in 2020. Because Liverpool is not returning empty-handed. They are carrying the title of one of the most precious Football League in the world, ‘The English Premier League Title‘.
Last season should have been the end of a long wait for Liverpool to win the EPL title after many years. But agonizingly, they lost it by a single point difference to Manchester City in 2019.
Imagine how it must have hurt all of you great Liverpool fans out there across the globe.
Yes. Even I felt the same way. Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team were the deserved champions last year. But sadly, Manchester City also played well throughout the tournament and never lost any matches at crucial stages.
To me, it was like a ‘Tie Breaker’, the term that we normally associate with Tennis. Because both Liverpool and Man City won all of their home and away matches.
So, I was wondering whether Liverpool would have the luck to win the EPL title this time.
So, how 2019-20 EPL Season looked like for Liverpool?
At last, after three decades of a long wait, not to forget the extra 100 days of a wait due to COVID-19 lockdown, Liverpool has finally broken the jinx and much to the delight of thousands of fans across the globe, we will witness this club lifting the EPL Title on 01-07-2020 at Etihad Stadium when they play against Manchester City.
For these many years, there were several Liverpool players and managers that had came so close to winning the EPL title but they could manage to be only in top 4 position and qualify for UEFA Champions League.
They may have won several other major football titles like the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Community Shields and many other such titles.
But all these many years, you could feel a sense of ‘Void’ or some sort of ‘Incompleteness’ in the minds of all the past and present Liverpool players, managers, and of course its fans.
That was due to Liverpool not winning the EPL Title since 1991. Even though, in the previous years, Liverpool had won 18 English Football League titles that was named earlier before the league name got changed to ‘Premiere League‘ after 1991.
In 1991, there were 22 clubs that broke away from the EFL. Since 1991 to date, the First Division Football Competition is played in the name of ‘English Premier League‘. This meant that from 1991 onwards, EFL was not considered as a first division at all.
As a result, Liverpool’s past titles meant nothing. That is why Manchester United succeeded in being considered as the Top Football Club in the 90s till the time Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager of this club because they had won 13 EPL Titles.
That is why, this time the ‘Victory To Liverpool’ will taste more sweeter than any of the other past achievements of this club.
I would like to make a sense of the importance of ‘Winning A EPL Title‘ by giving you all a comparison with cricket. In Cricket, for England and Australia, ‘The Ashes Series‘ is considered as an important tournament compared to the Cricket World Cup. So, they always try to give 100% effort in this series.
Similarly, in Golf, ‘The Augusta Masters‘ is considered as an important tournament that every Golfer aims to play well and win for than any other tournament in every calendar year.
That is why on behalf of all the Liverpool fans and the club itself, I feel so relieved that they managed to win the title this time.
Looking at the last season, Liverpool had the same lineup with many key players like Salah, Mane, Virgil Van Dyke, Trent Alexander Arnold, Henderson and others performing well in all of the matches. But there was a key moment where they lost crucial points by drawing a few matches. That is why they lost the title.
But this year, Jürgen Klopp ensured that Liverpool played well consistently throughout the league and won every match even if they had played below their expectations on that day.
That is what they have done so far and hence they are looking very dominant in the points table by scoring 86 points with only 1 match lost to Watford and 2 draws in this entire season.
With 7 more matches to go, I feel Liverpool has an opportunity to end the season on a even higher note by winning the remaining matches that they have and score the highest number of points of 107 that no other EPL winning club has done before.
Key Factors For Liverpool’s Victory
It was a great site for me and I’m sure you all felt the same way of watching your Liverpool club play really well this season.
To me, Liverpool was dominant throughout this season by not being complacent and they knew how to win even when they were in trouble and looked like losing the match.
Although, it was painful to watch Liverpool loose so badly tonight to Manchester City with a dreadful scoreline of 0-4 at Etihad Stadium.
But never the less, to me, the main reasons, for Liverpool to be EPL Champions in 2020 are the following:
#1. Winning a lost match:
Yup. That is right. Liverpool had won several matches by going a goal behind and scoring the winning goal at the 90th minute to win the match.
The best example that comes to my mind is the Liverpool versus Aston Villa match where at the first half, Aston Villa was leading Liverpool by 1 goal at the first half. They defended well throughout the match until the last moment where they score 2 goals in the 90th minute and in the extra hour timing to win the match against Aston Villa and to remain on top of the leader board.
#2. Every player played his part:
If it hadn’t been for their collective effort, I personally feel, Liverpool wouldn’t have got to the position of winning the EPL Title as they have done now. Through out this season, as you look at every match played, you will notice that every player had contributed to the win.
It was not just Mo Salah or Sadio Mane that won them the matches. Other great Liverpool players like Henderson, goalkeeper Ellison, Milner, Farminio, Virgil Vaan Dyke and many others that played a crucial role in Liverpool’s win.
#3. Klopp managed the entire team well:
Having re-winded the last two decades of Liverpool performance by past managers, none of them can ever beat the current manager-ship of Jurgen Klopp.
I don’t know about you all but I personally feel that proper ‘Man Management Skills’ plays a vital role in keeping the club perform consistently well. Because most of the players might have ego problem with their other players and it is vital that the manager gives importance to all of its players and help them play well together.
So, in the end, I’m sure it is a big relief for all of you Liverpool fans to have patiently waited for 3 decades to finally see your team win the ‘Elusive EPL Title’.
I sure felt the same way. For me, the celebrations are still continuing till the time the Liverpool lifts the trophy on the final day of this season’s English Premier League.
Finally, as the Liverpool’s famous anthem goes, ‘You Will Never Walk Alone‘. Indeed, they are not leaving empty handed in this season. I’m sure you are all hoping for this to be the beginning of a new journey for Liverpool in successfully defending this title for the next few seasons or maybe even more.
I hope you all enjoyed reading it.
